Study of Combining Ability and Heterosis in Quality Protein Maize using Line x Tester Mating Design

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background: High protein content with good quality maize is likely to gain wider acceptance if hybrids are produced that have agronomic performance similar normal and retain an enhanced nutritional quality. Thus, attempt was made develop for the benefit of different sections society depending on maize. Methods: During Rabi season 2016-17 (hybrids were obtained crossing ten inbred lines four testers following Line x Tester mating design) 2017-18 (evaluation parents involved along two commercial checks based agro-morphological traits). Result: Highly significant differences observed among lines, crosses. Combining ability revealed SCA variances higher indicating preponderance non-additive gene action. The contribution line tester interaction suggesting used in this study can provide high heterotic cross combinations. CML 508, 163-D 169 superior general combiners, their efficacy as future breeding programs. Heterosis identified yield advantage crosses namely, CML508 CML154-2, CML170 CML169 CML163-D DMRQPM103 over standard HQPM1 900 M Gold.

Estimation of Combining Ability and Gene Effects in Forage Maize (Zea mays L.) Using Line × Tester Crosses

Abstract Determination of gene effects and combining abilities is a critical stage in maize hybrid breeding. In the present study, 20 S6 lines as female and three S6 inbred lines (K18, K19 and K1264/5-1) as tester were crossed and the resulting  test cross progenies were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications in 2008. During the growing period, several agronomi...

Estimation of Combining Ability and Gene Action for Agro-Morphological Characters of Rapeseed (Brassica Napus L.) Using Line×Tester Mating Design

Combining ability effects were estimated for different agronomic characters in line × tester crossing program comprising 21 hybrids produced by crossing 7 lines and 3 testers. Parents and hybrids differed significantly for general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) effects, respectively. The variance due to GCA and SCA showed that gene action was predominantly additive...

Combining Ability and Gene Action in Sunflower Using Line*Tester Method

In order to analyze general and specific combining abilities and gene effects in sunflower for some agronomic traits, five CMS lines and four restorer lines (tester) were crossed in a line × tester scheme. Hybrids were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications in the Agriculture Research Station, University of Tabriz, in 2009 and 2010 growing seasons. Plant height,...
